8. ‘Bright Star’ by John Keats

　　《明亮的星》——约翰·济慈(1795 ~1821)

　　约翰·济慈，英国浪漫时期杰出诗人之一，作品大多基调忧郁。他才华横溢，无奈却不受上帝眷顾，早年感染肺结核，26岁病逝于意大利罗马。济慈曾经在罗马的居所就位于西班牙阶梯(the Spanish Steps)旁，现在用作展览，成了济慈雪莱纪念馆 (Keat Shelleys House)。济慈的创作高峰虽然仅仅只有五年左右，可是他遗下的诗篇却一直誉满人间。这首诗里还歌颂了感官之爱：“以头枕在爱人酥软的胸脯上(Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast)”。

　　Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art–明亮的星!我祈求像你那样坚定——

　　Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night但我不愿意高悬夜空，独自

　　And watching, with eternal lids apart,辉映，并且永恒地睁着眼睛

　　Like nature’s patient, sleepless Eremite,像自然间耐心的、不眠的隐士，

　　The moving waters at their priestlike task不断望着海涛，那大地的神父，

　　Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores,用圣水冲洗人所卜居的岸沿，

　　Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask或者注视飘飞的白雪，像面幕，

　　Of snow upon the mountains and the moors–灿烂、轻盈，覆盖着洼地和高山——

　　No–yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,呵，不，——我只愿坚定不移地

　　Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast,以头枕在爱人酥软的胸脯上，

　　To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,永远感到它舒缓地降落、升起;

　　Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,而醒来，心里充满甜蜜的激荡，

　　Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,不断，不断听着她细腻的呼吸，
